The Family Crisis Center of Johnson County has been providing compassionate support and lifesaving services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault since 1983. Our professional staff and trained volunteers are here to help you transition to physical, emotional, and psychological safety.
How We Can Help
- Emergency Shelter
Our secure shelter provides a safe haven for individuals and families fleeing domestic violence and sexual assault. In 2021, we provided more than 3,534 emergency shelter days to children and families in crisis. - Professional Counseling
Our trained counselors offer trauma-focused therapeutic counseling and support groups for children, women, and men. We provide over 4,000 hours of free counseling services annually to help survivors heal from trauma and rebuild their lives. - Legal Advocacy
We offer free legal assistance including help with protective orders, divorce proceedings, and child custody matters. Our advocates can explain your rights, accompany you to court, and connect you with legal resources. - Safety Planning
Our staff works with you to develop personalized safety plans for you and your children, whether you choose to stay or leave an abusive relationship. - Support Groups
We facilitate healing through peer support groups where survivors can share experiences and coping strategies in a safe, confidential environment. - Children's Services
With many of our shelter clients being children, we provide specialized services to help young survivors process trauma and develop healthy relationship skills for the future. - Bilingual Services
All of our services are available in both English and Spanish, with bilingual advocates on staff and all documents available in both languages.
Your Rights as a Victim
As a victim of crime in Texas, you have the right to:
- Be treated with fairness, respect, and dignity
- Reasonable protection from the accused
- Notification of court proceedings and offender status
- Information about victim compensation and community services
- Return of property when no longer needed as evidence
- Information about restitution and the criminal justice process
- A safe waiting area before court proceedings
Our Mission
The mission of the Family Crisis Center of Johnson County is to eliminate family violence and sexual assault. We provide shelter and support services to enable survivors to live violence-free lives. Through educational programs, we encourage active community participation in reforming the conditions and perceptions that perpetuate family violence and sexual assault.
Our Impact
Since 1983, we have been a safe haven for Johnson County victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Our prevention efforts include:
- Teaching violence prevention workshops to local elementary, middle, and high school students
- Reaching over 50 organizations to promote messages of prevention, safety, and support
- Working with local school districts to provide prevention-related education
- Conducting more than 80 educational programs annually to train professionals and community members
